One in five online users 55 to 64 said they’ve used a relationship program or service, according to a January 2018 survey from research and technology company Morning Consult. That figure is 1 in 10 for people 65 and older. And the overall number of 55- to 64-year-olds who’ve dipped in 50 and dating sites or cellular dating apps climbed to 12 percent in 2016 from 6 per cent in 2013, according to the Pew Research Center.
Most people are already texting and checking social media in their phones, so”there is no reason not to use an app to seek love,” she says.
“A lot of my customers that are over 50 are moving about two to three dates per week,” says relationship coach and Dates & Mates podcast sponsor Damona Hoffman.

If you’re not comfortable using technology, learn the basics before trying online dating, says Tina Williams, then a White Oak Library District outreach services supervisor who leads a monthly program called Relationship Over 50 and instructs online dating classes for adults from her Illinois area. “You don’t need to encounter as not reacting nicely if it’s just a technology issue,” she states.
Teach yourself
There is an abundance of books, blogs, podcasts and webinars that may assist you better understand internet relationship. Ask friends about their adventures, suggests Spira.
In her courses, Williams reviews the gaps among 50 plus dating sites, such as describing that some usage swipes for games, while others use quizzes.
Be strategic
Sticking with you to three 50 and dating websites is greatest, as any more could feel overwhelming to handle, said the experts AARP interviewed. And while market websites that cater to specific religions, interests as well as food tastes could be enticing, experts say to always pair searching on these platforms with one that has wider appeal. “The swimming pool on those market sites is always bigger,” says Hoffman.
